The Beatitudes
1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
(Matthew 5:1-12)

Daily Verse July 28, 2010

A Psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. (Psalm 23, KJV)

Daily Verse July 27, 2010

1 One day when the angels came to report to God, Satan also showed up. 2 God singled out Satan, saying, “And what have you been up to?” Satan answered God, “Oh, going here and there, checking things out.” 3 Then God said to Satan, “Have you noticed my friend Job? There’s no one quite like him, is there—honest and true to his word, totally devoted to God and hating evil? He still has a firm grip on his integrity! You tried to trick me into destroying him, but it didn’t work.” (Job 2:1-3, MSG)

Have you ever considered that God thinks of you as his friend? In this passage, God is bragging on Job. Could you imagine our Heavenly Father talking about you the way he talked about Job? I think God thinks more highly of us than we think of ourselves. Let us today choose to esteem ourselves rather than putting our selves down. Think today “I am a great person”, “I am a child of God and there is no greater honor”, “I am a friend of God”, and “I am loved by the most high God.” Even when Satan does rise against us, we have a greater power on our side in our big brother Jesus. Together with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit; we have nothing to fear.

A life in Jesus, is a life worth living.

Daily Verse July 26, 2010

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
(John 4:13-14, NIV)

Have you ever had a time where no matter how much you drank, you just could not quench your thirst. Now we know this was a figurative water Jesus was offering. He was offering to take care of our souls thirst for God and our thirst for salvation.

Daily Verse July 24, 2010, Saturday Edition

As Children

Have you ever watched two children share a toy that both want to play with. Sometimes it can be entertaining, but it usually ends up with one of the children getting their feelings hurt. This is a common occurance in young children. The sad thing is when adults still act the same way. They fight over parking spaces, toys at Christmas, and they even fight over children when they get divorced.

In these instances we need to have the following verse in our memory.

11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
(1 Corinthians 13:11-12, NIV)

Fighting and arguing over anything will never solve the problems that plague us. Review of the last 100 years will show this, with war after war and no real resolution. Learning from the past is what history is about, not just simply entertaining storys. Let us learn to get along by stepping back and watching the world through the eyes of children.

Daily Verse July 23, 2010

10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing out violence.
13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
(Psalm 27: 10-14, NIV)
